THE STORY IS IN THE MATERIALS

An in-depth look at the materials I work with...

BUTTERFLY WINGS

The butterfly has long been a sacred symbol of the soul, representing transformation, resurrection, rebirth, and reinvention. The delicate, iridescent patterns of butterfly wings make them a truly unique material for jewellery, capturing a fleeting moment of natural beauty in a lasting form.

All butterfly wings I work with are consciously sourced, ensuring that no harm comes to the species or their habitat. I also regularly donate a portion of my profits to The Rainforest Trust, an organisation dedicated to preserving tropical forests and endangered wildlife, so each piece carries a connection to both the wearer and the broader ecosystem.
Find out more about this collection on my page, The Butterfly Collection.

CARE

Although set under protective layers of glass and perspex, Butterfly wings are delicate and should be treated with care. Avoid exposure to water, chemicals, and direct sunlight, which can fade or damage the natural pigments. Store pieces in a cool, dry place, preferably in a lined box or soft pouch. If handled with care the jewellery and wings will last for generations.

BONES

I work with found or discarded bones, transforming materials that might otherwise be overlooked or discarded into beautiful, wearable art. By incorporating these natural elements, I aim to challenge the notion of what is ‘precious’, giving bones new life and form while honouring their origin.

Bone is an organic material, composed primarily of calcium and collagen, which gives it a natural strength and subtle warmth. Each piece carries a unique texture and character, reflecting its previous life and the journey it has taken to become part of a piece of jewellery.

CARE

Bones are delicate and porous, so they should be treated gently. Avoid prolonged exposure to water, heat, or chemicals, which can weaken or discolour the material. Clean with a soft, dry cloth and store in a lined box or pouch to prevent scratches or damage. With careful handling, bone pieces retain their natural beauty and the story they carry for generations.
