Custom & Bespoke Design
Do you design custom or bespoke jewellery?
Yes! I absolutely love working with people on custom and bespoke designs. I create engagement rings, remodel heirloom pieces, and craft unique jewellery of all kinds. It’s deeply rewarding to take a budding idea and watch it transform into a fully realised design — a meaningful, one-of-a-kind piece of jewellery. If you’d like to start your own project, fill out the custom design form or you can contact me here.
What is the difference between bespoke and custom jewellery?
Custom jewellery usually means personalising an existing design — such as choosing your own gemstone, metal, or finish.
Bespoke jewellery goes much deeper: it’s a fully one-of-a-kind piece, designed and handmade from scratch to reflect your story, values, and style.
Can I be involved in the design process?
Absolutely! The bespoke process is highly collaborative. You don’t need to know jewellery terminology, what matters most is your vision, ideas, or even just a feeling you want the piece to capture. I’ll guide you step by step to bring your ideas to life.
Can you use heirloom gold or gemstones in a new design?
Yes, I love working with heirloom jewellery.
Old gold can be melted down, and gemstones can be reset into a new design that feels fresh while still carrying the sentimental value of the original piece.
It’s a beautiful way to honour history while creating something that reflects your present.
How long does bespoke jewellery take to make?
The timeline depends on the design, materials, and sourcing process, but generally a bespoke piece takes 8 – 12 weeks from our first consultation to completion.
I’ll always discuss timeframes upfront, and any important deadlines (such as an engagement or wedding) agreed upon will be met.
How much does bespoke jewellery cost?
The cost of bespoke jewellery depends on the design complexity, the type of gemstone, and the metal chosen.
Whether you’re after something simple and elegant or intricate and detailed, I’ll provide quotes so you can make an informed decision.
Can I order bespoke jewellery online or remotely?
Yes — many of my clients are based outside Tasmania and even overseas.
The design process can be done entirely online via email, video calls, and shared design boards. You’ll be updated every step of the way until your bespoke piece is ready to be securely shipped to you.
Are your materials responsibly sourced?
This is an incredibly important part of my practice. I believe materials carry meaning and memory, and the provenance, or story-of-origin, is always what I look at first.
It is no secret the jewellery industry relies on mining to source the metals and gems we use, but I do my best to vet every part of what I source to ensure the people involved are working under fair, ethical conditions with minimal environmental impact.
The precious metals I use come from Australian recycled sources, and the gems from small, local fossickers and miners.
When working with me on a bespoke piece, I make it a priority that your ethics are understood and the materials we source align with your principles.
Responsibly sourcing materials is a huge priority for me, but I also love to be able to recycle materials you already have.

Do you make custom or bespoke engagement rings?
Yes, and it's one of my favourite things to make! Creating custom and bespoke pieces has always been a beautiful part of my process. I love being part of another person's journey to that next significant step in their lives. The collaborative engagement ring design is sacred to me because, for a while, I get to witness your love story.

Engagement & Wedding Rings
Do you make engagement rings?
Yes, I specialise in creating bespoke engagement rings that reflect your story and style. Each ring is thoughtfully designed and handmade in Tasmania, using carefully chosen materials and gemstones that carry meaning as well as beauty.
Do you make bespoke wedding rings?
Yes! I create bespoke wedding rings in Hobart, Tasmania, using precious metals such as gold and sterling silver.
Whether you want a classic band, a fitted design to complement your engagement ring, or something symbolic and unconventional, I’ll work with you to craft wedding rings that feel personal, meaningful, and lasting.
What gemstones do you use in engagement rings?
I work with consciously and ethically sourced Australian and international gemstones, including sapphires, diamonds, moissanites, and more. Each stone is selected for its durability, character, and symbolism. If you’re searching for something specific, I can source stones especially for you.
Do you offer alternative engagement rings?
Absolutely! Many of my clients choose non-traditional designs and unique gemstones. Your engagement ring doesn’t need to follow convention; together we can create something that reflects your personality, values, and story.
Do you design engagement and wedding rings for LGBTQIA+ couples?
Absolutely.
Love is love, and it’s an honour to create engagement and wedding jewellery for all couples.
How do I know my ring size?
If you’re unsure of your or your partners ring size, I can guide you through measuring at home or arrange for professional sizing.
For surprise proposals, I can provide advice and discreet strategies to help you choose the right size, and resizing is always possible later.
You can also visit my Sizing page for more info.
What if I want to keep the proposal a surprise?
I regularly work with clients planning surprise proposals.
We can design the perfect ring together, and I’ll support you with design decisions, size guidance and discreet communication. Your secret will be safe with me!
Do you make engagement rings for men?
Yes! I love creating men’s engagement rings that move beyond the idea of a plain band.
A men’s engagement ring can carry just as much symbolism, detail, and individuality as any other. Whether bold and weighty, subtly textured, set with a gemstone, or something completely different, we’ll design a piece that feels meaningful and true to your story.
Jewellery Care
How do I care for my jewellery?
To best care for your jewellery, understanding the materials it is made from is key.
You can visit my Materials and Care page to learn more about each metal and gemstone and how to maintain them.
In general, remove your jewellery when swimming, cleaning, gardening, rock-climbing, or during other physical activities. Store pieces in a dry, safe place where they won’t scratch each other, and gently clean them with warm, soapy water and a soft cloth.
I also recommend bringing your jewellery in for a health check and maintenance every few years. With proper care, your jewellery can last many lifetimes.
Do your gemstones need special care?
Every gemstone has unique properties, and some are more delicate than others. Diamonds and sapphires are very durable, while opals, pearls, and moonstones require extra attention.
I will provide specific guidance for the gemstone you select so your jewellery remains beautiful for many years.
How should I store my jewellery?
Store your jewellery separately to avoid scratches or tangling. Soft pouches, boxes, or individual compartments in a jewellery box work best.
Avoid storing in damp conditions or direct sunlight to protect both metals and gemstones.
How do I stop my jewellery from tarnishing?
Tarnishing is a natural process, especially for silver and brass, but it can be minimised with proper care.
Store your jewellery in a dry, airtight container or soft pouch to limit exposure to air and moisture. Avoid contact with chemicals like perfumes, cleaning products, or chlorine. Regular gentle cleaning with a soft cloth will keep your pieces bright and beautiful.
For silver and brass, I can guide you on restoring them to their original shine—or you may choose to embrace the natural tarnishing and oxidising process, which gives your jewellery a charming, antique look and character.
How often should I have my jewellery checked by a jeweller?
Regular checks help prevent damage and ensure settings remain secure.
I recommend having your jewellery professionally inspected at least once every 1–2 years. This is particularly important for engagement rings and pieces worn daily.
Do you repair jewellery?
I offer repair and maintenance on all jewellery I make.
For other pieces, or for complex heirloom restorations, I can recommend trusted jewellery repairers in Hobart.
Do you offer cleaning services?
I provide free cleaning, polishing, and refinishing for all my Emily Eliza Arlotte pieces. A small fee applies for other jewellery.
I can also provide guidance for at-home cleaning and maintenance to keep your pieces looking their best.
