ENGAGEMENT RING FAQ

What is a bespoke engagement ring?

A bespoke engagement ring is fully custom-designed and handmade, created specifically for you and your partner. Unlike ready-made or mass-produced rings, a bespoke piece allows you to choose every detail — from the metal and gemstones to the overall design. This means your engagement ring will be a one-of-a-kind heirloom that tells your unique love story.

How much should I spend on a bespoke engagement ring?

There’s no set rule for how much to spend on an engagement ring, so don't believe the nonsense marketing out there about so-many-months salary.

The cost depends on your chosen metal, gemstone, and level of design detail. I will work with you to create a beautiful, meaningful ring within your budget — whether simple and elegant or highly intricate.

During our first consultation, I’ll provide quotes across different options so you can make an informed choice.

How long does it take to design and make a bespoke engagement ring?

On average, the bespoke engagement ring design process takes 8 – 12 weeks from the initial consultation to completion.

This includes time for design development, sourcing gemstones, and handcrafting your ring. If you need your ring sooner, I’ll do my best to accommodate timelines where possible — but creating something truly special is always worth the wait.

I want to surprise my partner with an engagement ring, where do I start?

Everyone loves a surprise! It’s a beautiful gesture, but there are a few things to consider:

Sizing — getting the perfect size without your partner knowing is almost impossible. Most surprise rings will need resizing later (which is common).

Style — this is a ring they’ll wear every day. I’ll guide you with questions to help identify their taste and style.

The Proposal — a wonderful option is proposing with a stand-in token (like a family heirloom, gemstone, or even a simple placeholder ring), and then designing the final engagement ring together. This way, the surprise remains magical, and they still get the joy of being part of the design.

Can I see my engagement ring design before it’s made?

Yes — part of the bespoke process is making sure you feel confident in the design before I begin crafting. I provide sketches, digital renders, or mock-ups depending on your project, so you can visualise your ring and request refinements before it’s brought to life.

What if I don’t know my partner’s ring size?

This is very common! Don’t worry — I have a few discreet tricks to help you guess their size (like measuring an existing ring). And if it’s not exact, resizing is always possible after the proposal. Many couples expect a little adjustment, so it won’t take away from the special moment.

If this is something that you are particularly worried about, I recommend proposing with a stand-in token, such as a family heirloom, or the gemstone. This way the proposal remains a surprise, and they will get the joy of being part of the design.

Can you help me redesign or reimagine old or inherited jewellery?

Absolutely. Redesigning heirloom jewellery is one of my favourite parts of the bespoke process.

We can reset gemstones, melt down gold, or use design elements from older pieces to create something new that still carries deep sentimental value.

It’s a beautiful way to honour family history while making the ring your own.

Are your engagement rings ethically sourced and sustainable?

Whenever and wherever possible, yes.

The jewellery industry has a complicated history, and I believe it’s important to know the story behind each material. For my bespoke engagement rings, I carefully source gemstones and metals that are traceable, ethical, and sustainable wherever possible.

I often work with Australian-mined and recycled precious metals, responsibly sourced gemstones, and heirloom materials that can be reimagined into something new.

This process can take time and persistence, but it’s an essential part of my practice. Creating an engagement ring with integrity means honouring not only your love story, but also the earth and the people connected to each material.

What metals and gemstones can I choose for a bespoke engagement ring?

Most bespoke engagement rings are crafted in precious metals such as yellow gold, white gold, rose gold, or platinum, and for the right design, Sterling Silver. Each metal has its own character and feel.

Gemstones open an even wider world of possibility: diamonds remain a timeless choice, but sapphires, aquamarines, rubies, moissanites, morganites, and other unique stones are increasingly loved for their colour, symbolism, and individuality.

I often work with responsibly sourced or Australian-mined gemstones, as well as heirloom stones that can be reimagined into new settings.

Together, we’ll explore metals and gemstones that reflect not only your style and budget, but also the meaning you want your ring to carry.

Is it safe to order a bespoke engagement ring online?

Yes — I regularly work with clients across Australia (and internationally).

The entire process can be done remotely, using email, video calls, and shared design boards. You’ll be kept updated every step of the way, and your ring will be shipped securely with insurance and tracking.

Whether you’re based in Hobart, elsewhere in Tasmania, or across Australia, you can commission a bespoke engagement ring from my studio with complete confidence.

How do I care for my bespoke engagement ring?

With proper care and maintenance, your engagement ring will last a lifetime. I recommend removing it during heavy activity, cleaning it gently with warm soapy water, and having it professionally checked every 1–2 years.

I also offer care advice specific to your chosen gemstone and metal, so your ring stays beautiful for the decades to come.
