The Palm Earrings are made from Petrified Black Palm Root, Australian Opals, and solid Sterling Silver.

Petrified Black Palm Root, also known as fossil palm root or petrified palm wood, is fossilised palm root tissue gradually replaced and infilled by silica, often as chalcedony or quartz. In silica-rich conditions, mineral-bearing groundwater moved through the tissue, preserving parts of the palm’s fine internal structure.
The elongated streaks and tendrils visible in the cut stone are remnants of the palm’s vascular bundles.

It is both a plant fossil and a silica-rich stone, carrying the ecological history of the plant that once occupied that space. Paired with another silica-rich gemstone, Australian opal, and set in solid Sterling Silver, the earrings bring together fossil, mineral, and gem material.

Handmade in Nipaluna / Hobart, Lutruwita / Tasmania.

These earrings contain Australian Opals and Petrified Black Palm Root, both natural materials that should be treated with care.
Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals, perfume, cleaning products, prolonged water, and sudden temperature changes. Do not clean in an ultrasonic or steam cleaner, as Opals can be sensitive to heat and pressure.
To clean, gently wipe the Sterling Silver with a soft polishing cloth, taking care around the stones.

Preorder

What does Preorder mean, and how long will it take?

Preorder is available for some items that may take longer than usual for me to make and ship. This can be due to not having the materials in stock, or needing extra time to source a unique gemstone for you.

Generally, I would allow up to 4 weeks for the item to be made and shipped, but if you would like a more accurate time-frame, please reach out at the time of purchase.

FAQ

Are bespoke or custom requests available?

Absolutely! All my jewellery is handmade by me, and I can make any of your jewellery dreams come true!

As a designer, it is so rewarding to have someone come to me with a
budding idea of something precious to them and over time, the design
becomes fully formed, and they emerge with an incredible custom
jewellery piece.

Please contact me to discuss your options.

I love this piece, but I would love it even more if...

Alterations to existing designs is totally possible.

Sterling Silver, Yellow Gold, Rose Gold, White Gold, Mixed Metals - your metal choices are endless!

Necklaces can be made shorter or longer, rings wider or finer, earrings with hooks, chains or studs...

If you can dream it up, its possible.

Are the materials responsibly sourced?

Responsibly sourcing materials is a huge priority for me, and I recycle
whenever possible. Even though precious metal sourcing and finding
ethical, traceable, sustainable options can be difficult, it's nonnegotiable for everything I create.

When I make my pieces, I carefully vet every part of what I use to ensure the people involved are working under fair, ethical conditions with minimal environmental impact.
